"Child Discovering Rain." Alpine Artwalk. I would like to thank all of those who stopped by our booth this weekend and made Artwalk, for us, such a success. We met so many nice folks who took the time to come by and share their time with us and we finally met quite a few FB friends in person. What a treat. I might add that now there are several of our photos of Big Bend National Park that have found good homes around the state of Texas. ... See MoreSee Less
My first time to Big Bend was with backpacking friends some years ago. We were coming from Round Rock heading south to BBNP, just north of Marathon when we approached a prairie rain storm to the east. I was driving and noticed a 'lightning hot spot' where a strike would occur about every 45 seconds (I counted). Passenger steered as I rolled the window down to attempt to capture the next strike. I tried about 5 shots. Didn't know I caught one until we got home several days later. Click on the link for the big size. Big Bend Series #1
The mountain lion, also known as cougar or puma, has always been found in Big Bend country. Generally nocturnal, these prime predators feed on deer and small mammals. A lion's range is large - often 25 miles around a den - and populations will not exceed 10 animals in 100 square miles. In recent years human/lion encounters have increased as more people frequent the Big Bend country. Lord of all he surveys, the elusive cougar on watch from a stony perch.
