I am planning a camping trip to the Basin the first week of June. Haven’t camped there in several years and can’t remember if they have any spots close to the bathrooms that are for handicap campers. We have a member of our group that has some mobility problems and slopes are a bit of an issue. Does anyone have any suggestions as to which sites might be the best. Or with the closures is it even worth making the drive (from Houston) taking a chance on finding anything? Thanks in advance for your thoughts/suggestions. ... See MoreSee Less
Big Bend Series #2
Bears disappeared from the Big Bend country early in the 20th century. Their recent reappearance in the National Park has created much excitement. Black bears have migrated in from the mountains of northern Mexico and established a resident population again in the park, many being spotted on New Year's Day - what a welcome to 2010! These animals are monitored, where possible, to preserve a healthy bear population and prevent dangerous visitor/bear encounters.
